APPLICATIONS

Æ

Heavyweight concrete is widely used for radiation shielding of nuclear reactors and other structures that require radiation impermeability. The addition of MuaDense increases the unit weight (density) so that a smaller thickness of concrete is required to provide radiation shielding.

Encapsulation of Radioactive Waste

It facilitates handling, transportation, storage, and disposal of radioactive wastes. Encapsulation of waste is achieved by physically surrounding it in materials (typically a flowable high density grout)

Interlocking blocks incorporating MuaDense are a type of structure in coastal engineering used to prevent erosion caused by weather and longshore drift primarily to enforce coastal structures such as seawalls and breakwaters. These blocks are made of concrete and use a shape to dissipate the force of incoming waves by allowing water to flow around rather than against them, and to reduce displacement by interlocking together.

By using high density concrete in armour layers, you can achieve a reduction of the required edge length of the blocks allowing a reduction in the volume of concrete used, in turn giving easier placement of the units whilst speeding up program time.

With the increasing use of offshore wind turbines, it has become necessary to explore deep water sites for locating wind farms. Floating turbines are an ideal choice for these locations. Such turbines are typically anchored with mooring chains to the sea floor using gravity foundations. To increase weight of these anchors MuaDense is incorporated to produce high density concrete sea anchors that will keep your subsea installations in place.

Concrete weight coating systems are designed to provide negative buoyancy and mechanical protection for pipelines in subsea and wet environments.

Adding MuaDense to the concrete will make it heavier whilst allowing a fluid mix for spray applications.

Æ

Using MuaDense aggregates in a precast environment allows the manufacture of concrete mattresses with a high density / weight. Giving more stability to the units within this harsh sub-sea environment. Used as a recognised engineering solution for several of the challenges faced in subsea pipeline construction, umbilical deployment and seabed and soil protection/stabilisation, giving your subsea installations the best possible protection.

High density concrete has been used in many situations where hydrostatic pressure is an issue. Not only used in tunnelling applications but also in many civil engineering projects such as structures with below ground floors.

Aethel Mining manufactures high density / heavy MuaDense, produced from the natural iron ore Hematite for the production of concrete counterweights. When more weight is needed but volume is restricted due to the design of the product where the balancing weight is located, MuaDense is the best solution.

Æ

Onshore wind turbine structures require secure concrete foundations that are unaffected by continual stresses caused by the wind turbines rotating blades. In order to withstand this these foundations, require a substantial amount of concrete normally around 600m3. By utilising the properties of MuaDense this could be reduced whilst keeping the same weight, reducing the amount of excavation, steel & concrete thus speeding up the program time.

Alongside this the iron content of the aggregate acts as a heat sink reducing the impact of possible cracking. With the lifespan of these foundations being extended as newer more efficient models enter the market any benefits that can be attained during construction is a must have.

Æ

High strength grouts manufactured from our high grade MuaDense (high density aggregate) provides additional advantages in providing a denser structure and offers exceptional dampening against vertical & horizontal loading. Alongside this MuaDense aggregates have lower drying shrinkage than that of standard materials with the iron ore content acting as a heat sink.
